Hemlock Reishi Liquid Culture – Ganoderma tsugae (10 cc)

About this culture

Ganoderma tsugae, the hemlock reishi, is a hemlock specialist: it grows on Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis), which gives the species its name. It forms glossy, lacquered red-brown shelves with a white to yellow margin. We foraged this strain ourselves from hemlock forests in Northern Wisconsin in 2024, and harvested it with care for the forest. Reishi has a long history in traditional East Asian practice.

Each syringe holds live hemlock reishi mycelium in sterile nutrient broth, ready to expand onto grain or agar.

How to use it

• Grain: inoculate sterilized grain bags at about 5 cc per 3 lb bag, working in front of a flow hood or inside a still air box.
• Agar: place a drop on a plate first to check the culture and expand it before grain work.
• Fruiting substrate: hemlock sawdust or wood chips work best for this hemlock specialist.

Storage and shelf life

• Store refrigerated at about 40°F.
• Use within 4–8 weeks of arrival for best results. Refrigerated cultures keep for 3–6 months.
