Description

Ganodemra Tsugae – Reishi Mushroom Liquid Culture

10 cc Liquid Culture Syringe

Overview
Ganoderma tsugae, sometimes called Hemlock Reishi, forms glossy red shelves on conifer logs in the cool forests of northern Wisconsin. This syringe contains 10 cc of active liquid culture taken from a wild collection made in 2024 on Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis). The isolate was expanded under sterile lab conditions and is ready for plates, grain, or sawdust.

Why Grow This Strain

  • Wild sourced genetics Directly traceable to a healthy hemlock stand; no commercial cross‑contamination

  • Conifer specialist Performs well on softwood sawdust blends or fresh hemlock rounds and can adapt to supplemented hardwood with the right additives

  • Distinct morphology Produces thick, lacquered caps with a bright white pore surface, ideal for display and spore work

  • Reliable colonizer Shows fast, even growth in broth and on agar, making spawn production straightforward

Cultivation Guide

Stage Recommended Conditions
Grain colonization 24 °C (75 °F), relative humidity below 60 percent
Fruiting 18 – 22 °C (64 – 72 °F), 85 – 90 percent humidity, plenty of fresh air
Substrates Conifer sawdust plus 10 percent wheat bran, hemlock logs, or mixed hardwood blocks buffered with gypsum and lime
Time to colonize 10 – 14 days on agar, about three weeks in grain jars

For sawdust blocks, let the culture consolidate for four weeks after full colonization to encourage a thick, glossy cap.
